Reflection

"Let your gentleness be evident to all..." Philippians 4:5
A couple years ago, Terry Bock and I got to visit the ruins of the old city of Phillipi in northern Greece (Macedonia to be exact - remember "Come over into Macedonia and help us?" Acts 16:9). We both agree it was one of the highlights of our trip. There is a spot there where they suspect was the prison cell where Paul and Silas spent time because they had performed an exorcism on a slave girl (Acts 16:16-30). The place was called "Tullainium" and was a top security facility with iron bars and locks. Prisoners' feet were placed in stocks which caused continual pain.

In that setting, they certainly had the right to complain or wonder about God's leading; instead, they sang! And you know the rest of the story - the prison was open and they were set free. And the first thing they did was to convert the jailer! Talk about living what you teach!

Paul later wrote a letter to this group of believers which included the famous verse, "Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS, I'll say it again REJOICE!" (Philippians 4:4 - emphasis added). He then lists several ways I can "rejoice." The first one is, "Let your gentleness be evident to all." The Amplified Bible puts it this way, “Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people.” I wonder, would others use those adjectives to describe my interactions with them? In another letter Paul said, "It's the goodness of God that leads to repentance." (Romans 2:4)

So when I live my faith, is it more about living like the world, except on Sabbath, being right, or strong, or powerful - able to defeat someone in a theological debate? Or is it about being gracious, unselfish, merciful, tolerant, patient, and kind? God used and still uses goodness to lead people to repentance. What do I use?

Have a blessed day leading others to repentance in God's way,

Pastor Rich
WORSHIP THIS SABBATH
Speaking this Sabbath is our Lead Pastor, Simon Liversidge, presenting "Nothing Compares to Jesus." After Jesus' resurrection, He appears to His disciples not simply to confirm He is alive but to restore their damaged relationships with Him. Peter had denied knowing Jesus THREE times. Now Jesus restores him THREE times. Jesus invites Peter to stop comparing himself to others and focus on Jesus' call to him. Jesus invited Peter to penitence, to priority, and to purpose in Jesus.
Church family: "'Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.' Psalm 143:8. What a heavy yoke is shattered when we awaken in the morning, bring our hearts, minds, and souls and all their 'needs' to the Great Soul-ologist, offer Him our empty cups, and ask Him to fill them with Himself!" (Praying God’s Word, Beth Moore) Send your prayer requests and praises to Dina Horst at 402.420.5970. Thank you!
CVC's kids had so much fun during our Small Groups these past several weeks! Our groups included Art, Legos, Sewing, and Drama. This Sabbath, April 27, the kids from the Art and Legos small groups will be showcasing their designs in the lobby! We know you won't want to miss the products of their time, thoughtfulness, and creativity on display! Our little artists will show their art masterpieces and the kids from the Lego group will show their Lego robotic creations.
Our kids who signed up for the Drama small group have performances coming up! If you want to see them in action, watch out for them tomorrow, April 27 during the service! Mark your calendars for their performances on Sabbath, May 11 and Sabbath, May 18 as well.
VBS Volunteers Needed: Nazareth VBS is just the corner and we are gearing up for some fun at CVC! If you would like to help and are over the age of 13, please sign up tomorrow in the lobby or contact Pastor Cecilia at cecilia.liversidge@collegeviewchurch.org.

Visitors are encouraged to attend and any CVC members who would like to enjoy a meal before heading home are also welcome. CVC members, please bring 2-3 dishes to share (rule of thumb is enough for your family +6 more). Join us in Heartland Hall immediately after the church service.

A note from the library: This week we are featuring books from the Collingsworth program!
-His Gift, My Story by Kim Collingsworth:
You'll see life through the eyes of a very young Kim as she embarked on an extraordinary journey of traveling the country to share her music. She will invite you into a moment when as a thirteen-year-old, God used both her gift and her youth to make His purpose for her life exquisitely clear. In this account you will see a rare glimpse of her husband's early life and the events and relationships that shaped his diligent pursuit of music ministry. You'll have a front row seat to a fun but unconventional courtship, as God converged two lives into one. And you will witness God's plan unfold for Phil and Kim as they pursued a lifetime of music ministry together. Read this book and become acquainted with Kim, the homeschool mom and wife who has navigated the responsibilities of raising her family and keeping a home while also preparing musical presentations with excellence. Experience her challenges, her moments of releasing things she could not control, her watching God take over and do what only He can do!
-50 Things Every Child Needs to Know Before Leaving Home by Josh and Jen Mulvihill:
In 50 Things Every Child Needs to Know Before Leaving Home, Dr. Josh and Jen Mulvihill help parents put a biblical plan into action to raise children to maturity in Christ. A clear and simple guide, this book will help you holistically disciple your child to Godly adulthood. Just as a builder needs a blueprint, parents need a good parenting plan. Part of having a plan is understanding the target we are aiming for and having a step-by-step vision to discipleship our children spiritually, relationally, emotionally, financially, and physically. Learn how in 50 Things Every Child Needs to Know Before Leaving Home.

Come by the Ministries Gallery and check out a book from our mobile library!
We are stewards of God’s house. Please keep your voices low during the service so others can hear, and please pick up any children’s snacks & trash. Thank you for worshiping with us!
